The Third Day in Prophecy

of the Coming of the Bridegroom for Israel

In the gospel of John, the second Chapter begins with the marriage in Cana of Galilee. And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there: (John 2:1) Notice the first four words, And the third day, what does this tell us? A little-known prophecy from the book of Hosea describes a very important day for Israel.

Come, and let us return unto the LORD: for he hath torn, and he will heal us; he hath smitten, and he will bind us up. (Hosea 6:1)

After two days will he revive us : in the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight. (Hosea 6:2)

Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the LORD: his going forth is prepared as the morning; and he shall come unto us as the rain, as the latter and former rain unto the earth. (Hosea 6:3)

Now here is a determined time that He, the Lord Jesus Christ, will gather Israel unto Himself. It will be AFTER the second day. It will be in the midst of the THIRD DAY, and once again, He will marry Israel, as a husband, and she (Israel) will once again be betrothed to her heavenly bridegroom. Let’s compare another Scripture in the book of Hosea.

And in that day will I make a covenant for them with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven, and with the creeping things of the ground: and I will break the bow and the sword and the battle out of the earth, and will make them to lie down safely. (Hosea 2:18)

And I will betroth thee unto me for ever; yea, I will betroth thee unto me in righteousness, and in judgment, and in lovingkindness, and in mercies.(Hosea 2:19)

I will even betroth thee unto me in faithfulness: and thou shalt know the LORD. (Hosea 2:20)

And it shall come to pass in that day, I will hear, saith the LORD, I will hear the heavens, and they shall hear the earth; (Hosea 2:21)

Turn, O backsliding children, saith the LORD; for I am married unto you: and I will take you one of a city, and two of a family, and I will bring you to Zion: (Jeremiah 3:14)

Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD: (Jeremiah 31:32)

This time period in the second manifestation of the Lord Jesus Christ will bring to an end the trials of Israel. She will be in the presence of her King. He will be sitting upon His throne as King of kings, and Lord of lords, and His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom.

Chapter 2 of the gospel of John, begins with the third day, and a marriage in Israel, once again, this takes us back to the prophecy of Hosea. And I will betroth thee unto me for ever; yea, I will betroth thee unto me in righteousness, and in judgment, and in lovingkindness, and in mercies. (Hosea 2:19) I will even betroth thee unto me in faithfulness: and thou shalt know the LORD. (Hosea 2:20) God is going to raise up Israel in the midst of the third day. After two days will he revive us: in the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight. (Hoses 6:2) And be ready against the third day: for the third day the LORD will come down in the sight of all the people upon mount Sinai. (Exodus 19:11)

Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people, saying,  (Joshua 1:10)

Pass through the host, and command the people, saying, Prepare you victuals; for within three days ye shall pass over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land, which the LORD your God giveth you to possess it.(Joshua 1:11)

And it came to pass after three days, that the officers went through the host; (Joshua 3:2)

And they commanded the people, saying, When ye see the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God, and the priests the Levites bearing it, then ye shall remove from your place, and go after it. (Joshua 3:3)

Yet there shall be a space between you and it, about two thousand cubits by measure: come not near unto it, that ye may know the way by which ye must go: for ye have not passed this way heretofore. (Joshua 3:4)

Christ arose from the dead and from the tomb of darkness on the third day. Can you see a pattern here in God’s plan and purpose? And what about Peter’s declaration in 2nd Peter 3:8, But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.  Now remember that we are speaking about the Lord’s SECOND advent. On the third day He arose from the dead. Christ revealed Himself to whom? It was to Mary, (although this was not His mother that He encountered in the garden of the tomb, it is however, a connection to her name, a mother in Israel). On the third day as it was prophesied in the book of Hosea, or after two days and in the midst of the third day, He will raise up Israel, and they will live in His sight.

After two days will he revive us: in the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight.  (Hosea 6:2) Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the LORD: his going forth is prepared as the morning; and he shall come unto us as the rain, as the latter and former rain unto the earth. (Hosea 6:3)

And I will give her her vineyards from thence, and the valley of Achor for a door of hope: and she shall sing there, as in the days of her youth, and as in the day when she came up out of the land of Egypt. (Hosea 2:15)

And it shall be at that day, saith the LORD, that thou shalt call me Ishi; and shalt call me no more Baali. (Hosea 2:16)

For I will take away the names of Baalim out of her mouth, and they shall no more be remembered by their name. (Hosea 2:17)

And in that day will I make a covenant for them with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven, and with the creeping things of the ground: and I will break the bow and the sword and the battle out of the earth, and will make them to lie down safely. (Hosea 2:18)

And I will betroth thee unto me for ever; yea, I will betroth thee unto me in righteousness, and in judgment, and in lovingkindness, and in mercies. (Hosea 2:19)

I will even betroth thee unto me in faithfulness: and thou shalt know the LORD.(Hosea 2:20)

And it shall come to pass in that day, I will hear, saith the LORD, I will hear the heavens, and they shall hear the earth; (Hosea 2:21)

For the children of Israel shall abide many days without a king, and without a prince, and without a sacrifice, and without an image, and without an ephod, and without teraphim: (Hosea 3:4)  Afterward shall the children of Israel return, and seek the LORD their God, and David their king; and shall fear the LORD and his goodness in the latter days. (Hosea 3:5)
