Immanuel – Emmanuel – 1 – 2 – 3

Immanual ~ Emmanuel

Immanuel ~ Emmanuel, One and the same. This name is found 3 times in the Bible; 2 times in the Old Testament as Immanuel, and 1 time in the New Testament as Emmanuel. God loves detail, and He enjoys speaking to us in various voices and languages. He speaks to us through the voice of the cosmos, through the voices of His creation, and through the voices of the language of numbers. Nothing is coincidental in Scripture.

Immanuel “God with us” is placed in the Book of Isaiah 2 times. The name of Isaiah means ‘the salvation of Jehovah,’ or it can be said, ‘Jehovah saves’ or  ‘save thou Jehovah.’ Can’t miss the meaning in this name of this prophet. The Book of Isaiah is also the longest book in the entire Bible with 66 chapters. Even through the length of this book we see a message from God. God is witnessing to us through this book, the double 6’s — two (2) sixes — 6 • 6 — 2 is the number of witness and this witness is twofold to man. The number of man is 6, created on the sixth day, the human number, imperfect in the number structure of 1 number less than 7. Man falls short of the perfection of God. Man falls short of God’s standard For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; (Romans 3:23) Throughout all of time God has witnessed to man. God is longsuffering not willing that any should perish. The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. (2 Peter 3:9)

Immanuel (God with us) is found first in the 14th verse of the 7th chapter in the Book of ‘the salvation of Jehovah.’ Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. (Isaiah 7:14) Let’s first deal with the numbers, and then the message. The first thing that I see in the address of this message is — 7:14 — or 7 • 7 • 7 — three sevens. The first 7 stands alone and preeminent as God stands alone through His number and He stands preeminent throughout all of His works and words. Then in the number 14 we have the number 2, again God is witnessing to us of Himself in the double 7’s — 7 • 7. In this number structure we can see God the Father witnessing to us of the coming manifestation of God the Son through His birth. And through the triple 7’s we have the fullness of time of Galatians 4:4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, (Galatians 4:4, the double witness of God to the world, as the number 4 is the number of the earth, or world) and we have the fullness of the Godhead; so that the Godhead is in agreement, and action in the prophetic scene to come of the Messiah born of a virgin; thus, the first message to man (6) is that God will come, born of a woman, born of a virgin, a miraculous supernatural act of God.

The second recorded Immanuel (God with us) is found in Isaiah 8:8. And he shall pass through Judah; he shall overflow and go over, he shall reach even to the neck; and the stretching out of his wings shall fill the breadth of thy land, O Immanuel. (Isaiah 8:8) The message of this verse can also be seen through it’s number structure — 8 • 8 — two 8’s. As 7 represented God’s perfect number and much, much more, the number 8 represents that which goes beyond perfection, and that which goes above and beyond. And therefore, it is associated with the beginning of another series, or a new beginning. The number 7 and 8 are often connected or show a relationship within it’s meaning. Seven (7) takes us into the perfection of God, and 8 leads us to the Persons in the Godhead. In the number seven (7) we have the perfections of God, and in eight (8) we are led to worship Him. A new beginning for man in that he is now able to approach God through his new-birth by the Holy Spirit, and salvation through the life, death, and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. God gives man the gift of salvation in a new beginning, a new birth.

Now the message in this verse of ‘the salvation of Jehovah,’ no matter how much Israel fought and struggled against God and His purposes, God’s will and purpose would be accomplished. Through judgment, strife, contention, or destruction, God’s will would be fulfilled over His rebellious nation, and His hard-hearted people. God would use all to fulfill, God would use the Assyrian, God would use Nebuchadnezzar, God would use all to correct His people. And in the end God’s will triumphs.

Finally in the book of ‘the salvation of Jehovah’ we have Immanuel again, but this time He is not found in the name of Immanuel, but He is seen clearly and precisely in the phrase, ‘God is with us.’ (O Immanuel). Take counsel together, and it shall come to nought; speak the word, and it shall not stand: for God is with us. (Isaiah 8:10) At the beginning of this article, I said that Immanuel was mentioned 2 times; however, in one way He is mentioned 2 times, but in another way He is mentioned 3 times. Take counsel together, and it shall come to nought; speak the word, and it shall not stand: for God is with us. (Immanuel) The message in ‘the salvation of Jehovah’ is that God witnesses to man in that He will come, born as a child, given as a Son, and no matter what befalls His people, His nation Israel, Immanuel is with them. When they of His own people conspire against Him, and when they of other nations conspire to destroy His nation, Israel, God is with them and God is with us. O Immanuel, Immanuel.

Now to the last mention of Emmanuel, or the 3rd mention of ‘God with us;’ let us go to the 1st book of the New Testament, the Book of the Gospel of Matthew. The book of the King, it is said that Matthew is the book of the King for it is here that we have the Holy Spirit reinforcing the King in the following statement, Tell ye the daughter of Sion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass. (Matthew 21:5) It is the Book of the Kingdom, not only because the word ‘kingdom’ occurs 56 times (more than in any other book) but the Lord Jesus Christ is the revealing of the promised Messiah and King to come— Behold, thy King.

I just have to digress a bit . . . I just can’t let this mention of ‘Behold, thy King’ pass by . . . And it was the preparation of the passover, and about the sixth hour: and he saith unto the Jews, Behold your King! (John 19:14) These words, ‘behold, thy King’ and ‘behold, your King’ are mentioned 3 times in the Gospels. But I would like to just concentrate for a few minutes on the verse in John 19:14. Notice, it was at the sixth hour, the hour of man, the hour when man rejected their Sovereign, the hour when the Jews rejected their King, the hour of fallen man, the fulfillment or the climax of the evil heart of man towards God and His Son. Think not that it would be any different today, man desires to put away God and His Son, Jesus Christ. The heart of the unrepentant man would eagerly attempt to kill Him again, if they could . . . .

  . . . . now back to our theme . . . .

The third and last mention of Emmanuel is found in Matthew 1:23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. (Matthew 1:23) As the Book of Isaiah gives us the meaning to God’s message through the name of Isaiah, ‘the salvation of Jehovah,’ so also the meaning of the name of Matthew directs us to the message of the Holy Spirt. The name Matthew means ‘gift of God.’ God’s gift to man (6) is Himself in the Person of Jesus Christ (the Messiah). The word ‘gift’ is mentioned 8 times in Matthew’s gospel. For the wages of sin [is] death; but the gift of God [is] eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 6:23) God’s gift to man (6) is Himself in the Person of Jesus Christ. . . . I know, I know, I already said that but this is one statement that can surely be repeated again and again. 1 – 2 – 3

In the book ‘gift of God’ the only mention of Emmanuel is found in the 23rd verse of the 1st chapter. Do you see it? ‘The gift of God’ 1:23 — surely, you do not need to be hit over the head to see the message of the Spirit of God through His voice of the numbers.

Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. (Matthew 1:23)

This is a quote from Isaiah 7:14, God brings us back to the very first proclamation of the supernatural birth of God with us, God loves details, He enjoys handing us these little gems on a page, and in a phrase. Now to the numbering structure of ‘gift of God” 1:23. The fulfillment of this prophetic statement is the work of the Godhead bodily. All Persons of the Godhead act and are recognized as the force and originators of the greatest act of creation of all (if we can even call this creation) — God with man, God through His man, God in His man, God by His man — Emmanuel, God with us through the supernatural birth of God the Son, the Lord Jesus Christ — 1 • 2 • 3 — God the Father speaks, God the Son shows forth, and God the Holy Spirit serves.

Even in our everyday actions we cannot avoid the witness of God, not only in the date of the year but at the very beginning of our basic numerical structure, 1, 2, 3. Man in his hate towards God is still attempting to remove He who sits in time, and divides time, the Lord Jesus Christ. Instead of B.C. (before Christ) we have those who replace this with BCE (before the common era), and instead of A.D. (in the year of our Lord) we are beginning to see in various places these initials CE (common era); trying to change the time and date by a new phrase, Common Era and Before Common Era; I call it the common error.

In the number 1 we have the Omnipotent ‘elohiym, in the number 2 we have the witness of the Father for the Son, and in the number 3, we have the invisible witness of the Holy Spirit of God.

Immanuel ~ Emmanuel

Isaiah 7:14 — Isaiah 8:8 — Matthew 1:23

Coincidence? Imagination? Not on your life . . . there are no accidents or misplacement of words in Scripture, all has been planned and executed. All words have a purpose, and yes, even the numbers tell a story. True, the number structure did not develop until the 13th century into chapters, and later into numerical verses around 1240 A.D., and this really shows that even though the canon of Scripture is complete, and was completed in ages past, the Holy Spirit of God continues to work in His ministry of truth and conviction. He is the Spirit of truth and the Spirit of Comfort. Can not the Spirit of truth preserve truth, cannot the Spirit of truth keep truth. His work continues and will continue to reveal the perfections of God the Son, Jesus Christ.

[Even] the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. (John 14:17)

But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, [even] the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me: (John 15:26)

The doctrines have been preserved in truth, and I say this to remind you to keep your eyes on God and on His Christ through the Holy Spirit, that all things should be done to glorify Him. And in this is also a warning, do not place your focus on mere numbers alone, they are there to enhance the message, place your focus on Him, and only Him. Numbers do not make doctrines, they simply confirm the doctrines and the truth already given to man by God through the Spirit of God. A one string instrument can only produce a limited numbers of sounds, but an instrument of 10 (God’s divine order) strings can please and bless the hearer with a sound of harmony and unity.

Praise the LORD with harp: sing unto him with the psaltery [and] an instrument of ten strings. (Psalm 33:2) The phrase ‘instrument of ten strings’ is recorded only 3 times in the entire Bible. This could go on and on . . . there is no end to the hidden gems in Scripture.
