Giants in the Earth
Part v
Genesis 6:1-7
  I suggest that you read the previous articles before attempting part v of Giants in the Earth. Part iv dealt with Og of Bashan, the giant king of a nation of giants. I cannot walk away from Og because there is much more to be seen in this man. In the previous article it was written that Og was mentioned 22 times in Scripture, and the reason for this exact number. The number 22 in Scripture is connected to two of Israel’s most corrupt kings: Jeroboam and Ahab, each reigned for a total of 22 years. The number twenty two is eleven doubled. (11 + 11=22) The number eleven is associated with imperfection and/or chaos, disorder, and anarchy, and whenever you have the number eleven in Scripture, it is always associated with disorder or some form of disorganization. (Genesis 36:40-43) (Jeremiah 34:2) (Judges 16:5) (Judges 17:2) This number also is associated with witness (the number 2) and two together (22) creates a double witness, or a pronounced confirmation or testimony. Therefore, Og mentioned 22 times in Scripture is an emphatic number to show us the chaotic and disorderly nature of Og and his kingdom. The giants were the evidence of the nature of their forefather Cain. Og bears the mark of number 11 and the intensity of that number doubled in the number 22.
Side Note: Prophetically there is one to come who also will bear the mark of Cain, but his number will be the number of man, the number 6. Remember that the 6th commandment is, Thou shalt not kill. (Deuteronomy 5:17) (Cain was the first murderer) and also note that Cain’s descendants were only documented as far as the 6th generation. The last person recorded in the direct line of Cain was Lamech, and he was a serial murderer.
  Cain and his descendants are tied to particular numbers, but all are wrapped with the number six: the number of man. Take note of what happens when you take the number 22 (the number of times that Og is mentioned — the number of Og) as the double witness of the enemy of Israel and of God the Creator, and divide it by the number 6: this is what happens — 3.666666666666. Even though the number three is primarily connected to God in His completeness, it also is connected to man in his completeness (body soul and spirit) as a sinner — BUT — what we usually miss is that the number three also represents the trinity of evil, especially when it is tied to the number of man, the number 6 (6-6-6). The final manifestation of the trinity of evil is recorded in Revelation Chapter 13: Satan, the man of sin, and his prophet. In the number 3.666666666666 man cannot escape from the number six. It is attached to him as sin is attached to him. Man can attempt to run, and to hide, but he is forever marked by his number 6, and that in sin mankind follows after the trinity of evil, the number 3.
The Giant at the Jordan
  Before Israel approached the river Jordan (led by Moses, Joshua, and Caleb) they first had to face and defeat two huge enemy forces. The Jordan was the boundary between the giant ogres and Israel’s land of promise. (The waters that flow from the mountain top in the north descend into the Salt Sea or the Dead Sea is the lowest body of water on Earth. It is 1,388 ft below sea level, consequently the Dead Sea is the lowest elevation of land on Earth. The Jordan is spiritually referred to as the river of death, and actually this river becomes a river of death). The typography of the nation of Israel is a spiritual map of both Israel and mankind. When God created Adam, man was at his highest peak (intellectual, physically and spiritually) and when Adam sinned mankind quickly descended, as a waterfall, and all died spiritually and physically, and all are living to die. It was at this place of crossing the Jordan that Og fought to destroy Israel. It is always at the point when an individual is spiritually approaching ‘death to self’ and ‘alive to Christ’ that our enemy fights the hardest. Satan does not want anyone to get to the river of death for then it becomes the river of life. It is at this point that we cross over into life eternal, and we are made partakers of the heavenly calling.
And unto this people thou shalt say, Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I set before you the way of life, and the way of death. (Jeremiah 21:8)
Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. (Romans 6:4)
Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead. (Colossians 2:12)
  The first enemy was Sihon, and the second enemy was Og, both were Amorites, and both were men of renown and of the giants. Sihon’s name means ‘sweeping away’ as in conquering. The name of Og means ‘hearth-cake,’ and ‘giant’ or ‘long necked.’ The root of ‘hearth-cake’ directs us back to the clay, the earth, and the dust of the ground from which humanity was formed, and the cake (a round sphere baked by fire) reveals an act of fire (judgment in the fire) and the round sphere has many spiritual applications: a wheel, a circle, as man in his sin and rebellion cannot escape from his sin as he continually (as in a wheel) is imprisoned by his own sin. Both were formidable warriors of gigantic physical size, and led armies of fierce fighters that gave no quarter to women or to children.
Side Note: The Depths of Sin in War: Humanity, for thousands of years, has lived under the hand of the sword of take no prisoners, leave no one left to fight again. This was the age of the giants in the earth, and they fought with no mercy. I will add some references that show what the battle entailed. Even though these references refer to battles fought hundreds and hundreds of years later after the battles of the giants, it is still a vivid reminder of how conquered victims were treated throughout the world, not only in the East but all over the known planet.
Their children also shall be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses shall be spoiled, and their wives ravished. (Isaiah 13:16)
Samaria shall become desolate; for she hath rebelled against her God: they shall fall by the sword: their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped up. (Hosea 13:16)
Yet [was] she carried away, she went into captivity: her young children also were dashed in pieces at the top of all the streets: and they cast lots for her honourable men, and all her great men were bound in chains. (Nahum 3:10)
Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of the children of Ammon, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they have ripped up the women with child of Gilead, that they might enlarge their border: (Amos 1:13)
  It is here that the haters of God think that they have the right to criticize God by stating, Why does God allow this? They do not state, Why does man commit such atrocities? The heinous acts committed in war has always been beneath all moral reasoning. Why does God allow these acts? The answer is too ugly for mankind to deal with. God allows evil because the evil heart of mankind is so entrenched in evil that man refuses to acknowledge that it is his own heart that allows this evil. Evil doesn’t happen in a isolated environment, it affects all, even those we term as being ‘innocent.’ Humanity cannot deal with the sin that engulfs them, therefore, they pass the blame onto God, a God that they refuse to acknowledge even exists. The God of all truth allows humanity to wallow in their acts of sin to reveal that in every person born there is sin. All humanity has within themselves the DNA of sin. God desires that mankind would be honest within, and say, Yes, I am vile and filthy, and deserve nothing from a righteous and holy God. It is man who allows sin and atrocities, it is mankind that has the problem — not God!
From whence [come] wars and fightings among you? [come they] not hence, [even] of your lusts that war in your members? (James 4:1) Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. (James 4:2) There are many kinds of lusts: sexual, material (greed, fame, power, money and the list of lust is limitless).
  War comes because of sin, mankind refuses to acknowledge that he is a sinner and deserves the death of the curse that was passed down to all mankind by Adam. If God stepped in every time, and acted every time to prevent men from committing sinful acts against others, then mankind would never know the depths of sin. In all (everyone) there is either an excuse or an accusation. It is a natural thing for humanity to pass his responsibility onto others, and in this case, mankind loves to accuse God for not stopping mankind from sinning. Sometimes, I think God could be saying, You want sin more than you want the Savior that I gave to you through my beloved Son, Jesus Christ to forgive you of all your sins — how’s that been working out for you? When the words, ‘The Devil made me do it,’ doesn’t work then mankind falls on these words, ‘It’s all God’s fault because He didn’t stop me, but it definitely wasn’t my fault’!
  Back to Og and Sihon (both Amorites) And all that he did to the two kings of the Amorites, that were beyond Jordan, to Sihon king of Heshbon, and to Og king of Bashan, which was at Ashtaroth. (Joshua 9:10) I keep going back to the fact that these two were giants for a reason. Both Sihon and Og is mentioned together nine times (in nine verses) throughout all of Scripture. Nine, the number of finality and judgment, is attached to these two giants because God desires that we should not only grasp the physical military battle that Israel fought, but that we should understand the intensity of the spiritual battles that we face every day. Satan not only hits us once, but he comes at us with a second punch from a different direction. Job endured the attack of loss of material wealth and possessions, and loss of family in one day: punched and punched again. When you have been punched, watch for the next punch coming up, and be prepared. Do not be surprised, but be informed, and understand Satan uses his double whammy to disengage us from the battle field so we can go away and lick our wounds. Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped, (Job 1:20) What a testimony, through it all Job worshiped.
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things [are] honest, whatsoever things [are] just, whatsoever things [are] pure, whatsoever things [are] lovely, whatsoever things [are] of good report; if [there be] any virtue, and if [there be] any praise, think on these things. (Philippians 4:8)
That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ: (1 Peter 1:7) 　
Og and Sihon in the Psalms
  The last mention of these two giants united together is found in Psalm 135:11. This is a strange place to find these two enemies of Israel in a psalm of praise.
Praise ye the LORD. Praise ye the name of the LORD; praise him, O ye servants of the LORD. (Psalm 135:1)
For I know that the LORD is great, and that our Lord is above all gods. (Psalm 135:5)
Whatsoever the LORD pleased, that did he in heaven, and in earth, in the seas, and all deep places. (Psalm 135:6)
Who smote great nations, and slew mighty kings; (Psalm 135:10)
Sihon king of the Amorites, and Og king of Bashan, and all the kingdoms of Canaan: (Psalm 135:11)
And gave their land for an heritage, an heritage unto Israel his people. (Psalm 135:12)
  Our great God executes His purposes, and His enemies cannot succeed against Him. Our hearts should be eased to accept that God is always victorious. He doesn’t need us to verify or defend His actions. Everything that He does is based on His goodness, His righteousness, and His holiness. If you have a problem with that then you have a problem within yourself. God doesn’t need your approval. These two kings are mentioned together with all the kingdoms of Canaan to encourage us in our daily battle against the spiritual giants that surround us, and tries to block us from our inheritance in Christ. Look at all the weapons that the giants of world religions use against Christians: they deny the Word of God, they deny the truth within the Word of God, they claim that you need the authority from man to understand the Word of God, they state that you need the approval of man to serve God, they insist that salvation is by works, and that salvation cannot be secured, etc., etc.
  God not only gave Israel the victory over these giant kings, but He gave their lands, their homes, their fields, their crops, their possessions as an inheritance to Israel. This song of praise in Psalm 135 is then repeated in Psalm 136. The song of praise in Psalm 136 is so beautifully written by the Holy Spirit in its simplicity and in its rhythm as a beating drum: for his mercy endureth for ever. Psalm 135 and 136 tells the same story, but in a different manner. The first phrase of every verse in Psalm 136 is condensed from Psalm 135, and the unchanging beat of the words for his mercy endureth for ever is repeated twenty six times, as a beating drum intensifying in sound. This is what the Spirit of God wants to drive into our hearts that when we are in this field of battle, and the ogres of Og and Sihon say to us, Yea, hath God said? And as the wife of Job said to Job, curse God, and die, and when we are under attack and we say to God, Why God? The drum beat of Psalm 136 reminds us that his mercy endureth for ever.
To him which led his people through the wilderness: for his mercy endureth for ever. (Psalm 136:16)
To him which smote great kings: for his mercy endureth for ever: (Psalm 136:17)
And slew famous kings: for his mercy endureth for ever: (Psalm 136:18)
Sihon king of the Amorites: for his mercy endureth for ever: (Psalm 136:19) 　
And Og the king of Bashan: for his mercy endureth for ever: (Psalm 136:20
And gave their land for an heritage: for his mercy endureth for ever: (Psalm 136:21)
Even an heritage unto Israel his servant: for his mercy endureth for ever.(Psalm 136:22)
Who remembered us in our low estate: for his mercy endureth for ever:(Psalm 136:23)
And hath redeemed us from our enemies: for his mercy endureth for ever.(Psalm 136:24)
The Inheritance
  The battles of the giants was the battle to keep Israel from their inheritance, to rob Israel of the promises of God to Abraham. Do not allow the giants in the earth rob you of your inheritance in Christ.
And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified. (Acts 20:32)
To open their eyes, [and] to turn [them] from darkness to light, and [from] the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me. (Acts 26:18)
That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him: (Ephesians 1:10) In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will: (Ephesians 1:11)
The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, (Ephesians 1:18)
Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ. (Colossians 3:24)
And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions [that were] under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance. (Hebrews 9:15)
To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, (1 Peter 1:4)
