The Most Important Biblical Number

Although this website is titled Mystery of Numbers it is primarily centered around the connection between numbers written within the pages of Scripture. It is not exclusive to the written numbers within references, but sometimes we have articles concerning the points of reference (the place or address of the location of a reference). Because we, as frail human beings have, a tendency to become occupied with the smaller issue we fail many times to comprehend that there is a larger view. I sometimes feel that I should have a disclaimer on each and every article that I post on this site to warn and to instruct all readers not to become obsessed with the numbers within the Bible. The danger of biblical numerology is that, for some, it can become an obsession or precious time wasted on playing a one string instrument. The numbers are there as an aid in understanding, and is not the only theme within Scripture. Again, do not become distracted by numbers to the end result of that you cannot see the main object of the theme of Scripture. What I write is not new, nor is it profound in thought, nevertheless, it should always be in the forefront of all our understanding about the Bible.

The most important biblical number (in my opinion) is the number 1. God is One, the Godhead is One, His Word is One, and His word is One. From the first mark to the last mark on the holy pages of God’s holy book His Holy Voice to mankind is One, about One by One. Many themes, as threads, are woven throughout the pages of Scripture, but nevertheless the main point is the mind of God. God chose to reveal Himself to His creatures. This in itself is mind boggling, why would a Creator who made the universe and all the forces that maintains its flow would even want to connect to the limited brain, and narrow hearts of His creatures. He did not make robots, He did not make angels who could not sin, and He did not make man who would not sin, He made all within His framework for His divine purposes. And we, as humans, think that we have a right to decide what our Creator should have done, and what He should now do. Who are we to decide what God should do, and what God can or cannot do?

We attempt to measure God by our own worthless thoughts. Mankind measures everything, we measure what we can see, we measure what we cannot see, we measure what we hear and we attempt to measure what we cannot hear. The only thing we do not want to measure is ourselves, and when we do measure ourselves then we measure ourselves against the lowest form of standard. Adam (that means all humanity, all flesh) is not capable of measuring an infinite God. The difference is between two numbering systems (or measuring systems) one numbering system is by man and the other system of measurement is by God. God’s numbering system of measurement is beyond man’s comprehension. God’s measurement system doesn’t use numbers: He measures all by His holiness, and by His righteousness.

Exalt the LORD our God, and worship at his holy hill; for the LORD our God is holy. (Psalm 99:9) (Don’t you just love this number 9 – 9 – 9)

The LORD is righteous in all his ways, and holy in all his works. (Psalm 145:17)

The arithmetic of the number 1 is very simple, it cannot be divided, it is the beginning of our basic numbering system (not considering the number ‘0’. It is the beginning of a progression of numbers to a positive side, and it is the beginning of numbers to a negative side. It cannot be divided, but it can also be the point by which a positive and a negative meet. How true in the spiritual application for all meet at this one point — GOD! Not only can God not be divided and separated into segments and points of division, but it is at this exact point that all mankind must come to take a stand. But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. (Hebrews 11:6) All must make a decision at the most basic point: God IS! God exists, God is a reality.

The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good. (Psalm 14:1)

The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good. (Psalm 53:1)

The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts. (Psalm 10:4)

I have heard more reasons (not reasons really just merely excuses) not to acknowledge the Godhead bodily. Some statements that I have heard not only border on stupidity, they are mostly boastful, ignorant, and hypocritical. I have crossed swords many times with those who wielded rusty and dirty swords that I often felt pity for them not only because of their incompetent travel agent (the one who had set their destination in the wrong direction), but also in their inability to see beyond themselves, and to acknowledge the emptiness within themselves. I too at one time had been there. It is one thing to acknowledge that there is a God, and another to believe in God. But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. (Hebrews 11:6)

How quickly I became distracted from my goal of writing a simple article on the number 1 in Scripture. The following documentation deals with the ultimate Oneness of our Creator in Jesus Christ.

Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; (John 17:20)

That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. (John 17:21)

And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: (John 17:22)

I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me. (John 17:23)

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.(Galatians 3:28) What God has joined together no man can rend asunder!

The number 1: united, indivisibleness, complete without exception, unconditionally whole, perfect, perfect in all forms, perfect in unity. What could be greater than the number 1: God is One, the Godhead is One, His Word is One, and His word is One, and we (those who through the faith of the Lord Jesus Christ) are joined with God through Christ, and are joined in Christ through God.

Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. (2 Peter 1:4)

And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. (Ephesians 4:24)
